The Mystery of Explorer Street, Toowong

By Tim

Everyday life may seem pretty boring, and well, it is actually. You'd be surprised though at the mysteries that present themselves.Take for instance the following story.

Back from the grave!<cue Unsolved Mysteries music and Robert Stack in a trenchcoat appearing out of nowhere>

<wait a sec, isn't Robert Stack dead? Isn't that a mystery unto itself?>

Time: 2:59am. Location: My shitty townhouse in Toowong. My state: Fast asleep.

Cue me waking up to sound of ocker female voice.

"Yeah, oi sed oi'm at EXPLOOOOOOROR stroit. In Toowong! No, oi dunno how oi got here! I'm at EXPLOOOOOOOOOROR stroit. Yeah. Oi'm just gonna get a cab to take me back to the Regatta. yeah. EXPLOOOOOOOROR STROIT. Nah oi dunno where oi am. EXPLOOOROR stroit. I'm just getting a cab back. fuuuuuuuuck"

May or may not have been the scene outside my window, with her friends being very quiet.As much as the above seems unlikely, not only that, but it continued in that vein for a good 5 minutes.

Now let's just think about this.

A lone female has ended up outside my window on the corner of EXPLOOOOOOOOOROR street and my street. This is 15 minutes walk from the Regatta. Through strange backstreets. This is Sunday night. This is 3am. How did she get here? Why can't the person on the other end understand her? Why is she going back to the Regatta when it's 3am on a Sunday night ffs? So many questions, so little answers.

The real question though, is what ended up happening to her? You've got to wonder what happens to people like that in everyday life. You're just sitting in your office and all of a sudden you get a call. It's your secretary. "Yeah, hi, I'm on Turbot Street at the moment and I don't know how I got here. How do I get back? I'll just cab it back shall I?" "Um, yeah, how'd you get there?" "Dunno. Turbot Street."
