I don't know if there has been a thread started like this in the past, but I'm interested to know: How did other people find 4BG?

I met Miles in the Melbourne Uni toilets. I had a small bag of crack and a raging hardon, he had a sniffly nose and penchant for "glory holes"... the rest is history!

Well, Tim suggested that we start a webiste one night, and sugegsted it be called "4 Bitter Guys"- we apathetically grunted the affirmative, and the next thing we knew Tim had registered the domain and was hassling us to help him get it set up. Micahel wrote a bunch of amusingly gross content, the rest of us put in a token effort and the site slowly took shape. Late, i scammed a copy of UBB from work and we put up a forum. Sometime later PlayNOW! fell over and a heap of users moved here. We moved across to PHPBB and the site continued to grow. Eventually even Michael got the shits with writing articles and gave it up for a bad joke. Somewhere in there those treacherous bastards gave me the flick in favour of the eminent and vastly more amusing Adam. Also, Ilce called us ugly.

I discovered it while Googling "CNNNN" and "Craig Reucassell, Chris Taylor" back in 2003. The 4 Bitter Guys post was about the 3rd result and contained this gem...
Aus: Mel & Charlie to be replaced
After reading it, I joined immediately.
Bustybonnie wrote:Thank fuck for that. Maybe I can listen to triple j again now I hated those fucktards.
I found myself smiling, nodding along and agreeing with a lot of your opinions. This forum just wasn't like all the other anal-retentive over-moderated ones I'd come across previously. As an Australian forum, you were discussing international as well as local Syd/Melb news events. Forums and message boards had never really appealed to me. But at the time, what you guys were saying was kind of edgy and I liked that. Plus it seemed as though the people here had external lives away from the net, Shock/Horror. Requiem wrote:Charlie Pickering is actually quite funny by himself as a stand-up act, but agreed, he's fucking shithouse on Triple J, and Mel's got nothing too. Chris Taylor and Craig Reucassel will be interesting. Hopefully they can do great things.
Adam and Will have my ultimate respect though. Fuck are they hilarious when they get going on something.
Karsten wrote:van wrote:i wont have any of it. michael tunn was the man.
DAMN - you beat me to it - Tunny was awesome - most triple j djs are crap (Rosie especially - when is she going? That troll most die by being cut up into thousands of pieces, deeep fried and feed to the pigs from Snatch).
LOL! So harsh, Karsten. Adam wrote:Robins and Sandman are shit. They were shit then and they're shit now.
Maynard was the best.
Simon wrote:Maynard was before my time, but how you can say Robins is shit I'll never know. That guy is a fucking smart cookie and knows how to deliver some very witty comedy.
Adam wrote:He's a loud conceited fuck.

I'm a refugee from Playnow!, which was in turn a refuge from the old Gamenation forums, which were the first forums I ever bothered frequenting regularly.
Which is sad, considering the state of those forums today...

I remember posting here under a different username ages ago when there was about a dozen or so members... I can't remember why I originally joined, but I re-registered and stayed when PlayNOW choked.
I hope at least one person found this place via the Pool Room.

I've been friends with Simon for years. He told me someone was talking about my Halo efforts at the Starcity AMD launch, so I came on here to brag. There were quite a few funny people in that thread so I read around a bit and found a lot of people to be halarious.
I've been on and off browsing this ever since.

Well I count at least 3 spelling mistakes in my post - fuck I'm terrible. I wonder if people who haven't met me think I have a speech impediment. Actually forget that, I know the ones I have met me think I do at the best of times.
My story? I went to uni with Miles (where we did German together). And as is Miles' want, he hassles. And hassles. And if you don't do what he wants, he'll hassle you some more. Eventually you decided to do what he wants as you're afraid of being hassled to death. So I joined the forum. I think by that stage I knew Miles for a year and a bit and Michael, Ches, Bustybonnie, Suse as well. Met a lot of the other Melbourne crew at a 'games night' (my first) 18 months ago I think. And a lot of the Sydney crew in February last year when Miles and I drove up for a short holiday.
PS - I still think Rosie should die - fuck I still can't listen to request fest or whatever it is now. Die bitch. Die.

I was searching for a pic of Lynx Accelerate, to put as my MSN display pic... in order to show everyone just how much I loved it. I came across an article written by Michael himself detailing his struggle with accelerate and ultimate switch to voodoo. I had a look around and it seemed superior to any other forums I'd come across, so I stayed.

I'm a Playnow refugee. Originally joined Playnow because jonty sent me a ICQ message telling me someone on there in Mildura was selling a Dreamcast.
I joined the forum, bought the Dreamcast, hung around and jonty is a slack fuck. The rest is history.

PlayNOW was my haunt, then this site started and I posted at both. A while later some of the admins at PlayNOW reverted to their infant years and ran the site accordingly, and as a result it was no longer enjoyable. I stayed on here.
Before or after that time, the guys said to me 'be a bitter guy' and I said 'okay', and went spastic writing articles like there was no tomorrow. During and following a chronic bout of depression of which I think everyone's familiar but nobody knows the more frightening details, my contributions nosedived. Fortunately, so did everyone else's.
Before or after that time, PlayNOW went down indefinitely. Under the auspice of a certain PlayNOW admin, 4BG became a proxy PlayNOW to bridge the gap. When PlayNOW returned to service a few months later 4BG had become very busy, and few people returned to PlayNOW. As a result, aforementioned PlayNOW admin decided it was our fault PlayNOW was quiet and got dirty with us for stealing his user base, to the point of banning any mention of 4BG at PlayNOW. This is where the association ended.
Before or after that time, I fought with Miles, Tim and Michael, Miles fought with me, Tim and Michael, Michael fought with me, Miles and Tim, and Tim fought with me, Miles and Michael. The fighting continues but we all love each other. Awww.

I'm another ODWF/Gamenation refugee that ended up on Playnow. Got referred here and found it far less painful to read. Thus, I hung around for a bit.

PlayNOW refugee here - I've since found that both places appeal to me, so I try to stay out of any inter-site flame wars that may or may not happen.
However, I keep wondering why PlayNOW hasn't collapsed in on itself yet... it's kind of surreal

All evidence points to a third forum which is influencing PlayNOW's irregular content, but when we look, the ghost forum simply isn't there. We do not completely understand the universe around us, but I have full faith in modern physics and believe we will discover the mystery behind PlayNOW some day.
