True, I agree that anime as a genre is over-rated, but there are some truly awesome films out there.
My favourites would be Ninja Scroll and Princess Mononoke, and this is by the same guy who did Mononoke and is supposed to be just as good, if not better which equals mucho quality assurance for moi.

Very bizarre movie. Anime version of Alice in Wonderland.

Import of course, it doesn't come out here until June the 11th according to the official Aus website.
I got the 2-disc edition from DVDBO.
It is SUCH an amazing film...

Indeed! I also got mine from DVDBO back in late april.. a fucking awesome moofie.... I saw it in the cinema and wanted it on DVD.
Indeed it is a MiaZaki film.. who did Princess Mononoke (which is one of my all time fave moofies EVAR! the soundtrack for it is mindblowing). Castle of Cagliostro and Porco Rosso...
Hey DJ.. did you look at the previews? I have Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky on the way from DVDBO right now

I saw it at Unimovies a while ago. The Japanese voices are much better than the english voices, right?

I always watch manga in Japanese with English subtitles (as I did with Spirited Away in the cinemas). American voices don't suite the images seen on the screen - they're worlds apart.

Yeah, I agree, for the most part. I ask because the Uni force fed the english version on us, not that it was that bad, I just prefer seeing it in Japanese with English subtitles.
They're showing the Cowboy Bebop movie this week with subtitles, so I guess they must have gotten a few requests.

I havent watched it in Japanese yet.. I thought the ENglish dub was excellent..
The dub for Princess Mononoke was rather average with only Minnie Driver being exceptional..
I will watch Spirited Away on sub this week and see how it goes.. if the sub is better well.. that is saying something..
The moofie is still sensory overload.
Apparently the cowboy bebop moofie are out on dvd soon. I missed seeing it at the dendy when it showed

I was going to miss it as I haven't seen the whole series but I've been told it doesn't matter because it's set within the series, not after it.

Hmm well then.. I guess if thats the case.. it kinda confirms that the ending of the series doesnt get disproven in the movie then.
If that made sense

This is the first anime I've ever seen where the English dub is better than the original.
Mononoke had a good dub, but I didn't think Gillian Andersons voice suited the mother wolf at all and so I preferred the original dub.
Spirited Aways English dub is so good that when I went to check watch it again to check the Japanese soundtrack I had to turn it off because it was so mediocre.
Best English dub ever - I see no reason at all to watch this movie with the subtitles on.

Fair enough - but I always prefer to watch films etc in their original language, as it's as close as possible to what was in the director's/production company's head.
But if they are multi-lingual (ie English) then yeah - sure it might work...

If it's a Japanese anime movie say, and it's directed by a Japanese dude who speaks Japanese, right... but he also speaks a very good level of English, then yeah - watching a dubbed version of the film may be okay, as he will be able to judge if the dubbed version meets his vision.
By speaking the two languages of Japanese and English the director is mul-ti-ling-u-al...

Ah, okay.
Well Disneys Pixar studio was solely responsible for the English translated version, and having flipped back through the subbed and dubbed and comparing our soundtrack to the subtitles, we get an almost word-for-word perfect translation.
Seriously, I usually prefer subs, only because dubs suck.
I'm so glad that dubs of good Japanese movies are no longer sucking. I read so fast that subs hardly bother me, but at the end of the day this is one less thing that stands between me and the enjoyment of a great movie.
Here's hoping English soundtracks can maintain this level of standard, though I could still never watch live action subs - bad lip-synching kills movies for me.
